The Spain Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai China is designed to be a hand-weaved wicker basket structure supported by the steel framework inside. "The Basket," as some have dubbed the pavilion, is "dressed" in more than 8,000 wicker panels in brown, beige, and black. Wicker weaving is a tradition in both Spain and China and the pavilion, Spain Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai China, is like a bridge connecting the two nations. The panels were handmade by craftsmen in Shandong Province, each one unique in design.

The pavilion contains three exhibition halls which will take visitors through the time and space of the development of the cities in Spain with the theme of "From the City of Our Parents to the City of Our Children." The three displays are created by famous Spanish film makers from three decades.

Finland celebrates Pavilion Day Expo 2010

Finnish President Tarja Halonen announced the opening of the Finland Pavilion Day at Expo 2010 Shanghai China this morning at the Expo Center.

Halonen said this year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and China, and China is now Finland's leading trade partner in Asia and fourth-largest partner worldwide. She noted "there is still a lot of potential for growth in cooperation."

Finland hopes to strengthen its cooperation with China and other countries by participating in the Expo and the pavilion, Expo 2010 Shanghai China, "Kirnu" is an example of modern Finnish architecture, design and sustainable building.

China's Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang said China and Finland has witnessed fruitful cooperation over the years and the Expo would serve as a new platform for the two people to enhance friendship and exchange.

At the ceremony, Finnish artists teamed with their Chinese counterparts to put on performances, which include accordion and pipa (Chinese lute) music along with a dance by the Finnish National Ballet.

The 3,000-square-meter pavilion is in Zone C next to the Denmark Pavilion. Its theme is "Well-being, Competence and Environment."

The day will be packed with music such as pop, jazz, rock, metal and others. The program Expo 2010 Shanghai China includes the Five Corners Quintet, Kimmo Phojonen, Villa Nah, Turisas, Stratovarius, Top Billin and Negative, one of the best known European glam rock bands founded in 1997.

Famous Finnish children's theater Moominpappa at Sea will put on performances with Moomin Valley and Finnish fairy tales. There will be shows at 12pm and 4pm.

The design of "Kirnu" (Giant's Kettle), at Expo 2010 Shanghai China, is inspired by nature and it is surrounded by water.

Expo 2010 Visitor number hits new record

A total of 350,400 visitors entered the Expo site, Expo 2010 Shanghai China, by 8pm on May 26, 2010 on the Expo's 26th day, bringing the total visitor number to a new high at about 6.07 million since the fair's opening.

The operation of the site, Expo 2010 Shanghai China, was in good order, the organizers announced.

Among the visitors, 139,700 were on group tours, accounting for about 40 percent of yesterday's visitor flow.

The most crowded gates, Expo 2010 Shanghai China, were Shangnan Road, Gaoke Road W., Houtan, and Changqing Road. Houtan received as many as 68,000 visitors, Changqing Road 56,000, and Shangnan Road, Gaoke Road W. about 45,000 each.

A total of 45,759 tickets of Expo 2010 Shanghai China were sold on site by 7:30pm.By 5pm, 76 performances had been staged, attracting nearly 68,000 visitors. Altogether 6,051 volunteers served on the site.

Highlight 1: Hightech and Interactivity

Virtual guides: on the huge animated screen, there are virtual guides who will help the guests to understand the themes and stories by playfully interacting with screen contents, without speaking. Augmented reality: augmented reality technology will be used to create an inspiring experience which brings together many diverse elements of Finland in an exciting interactive adventure. The first public premiere of augmented reality on Nokia's N900 mobile device will be shown in the Finland Pavilion. Interactive electronic artwork: 200 mobile phones will react to passing guest by changing their display colours. The guest may also take his/her snapshot and add it to the artwork; the snapshots are continuously replaced by following guests. KONE Lantern elevator: The KONE Lantern elevator was designed to replicate the effects of a Chinese lantern but with a Finnish twist. The elevator, combining innovative technologies and cutting-edge design, will be a highly visible and integral part of the pavilion both as a functional elevator and an exhibition piece. The elevator, Finland Pavilion Expo 2010 Shanghai China, will feature the latest in RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology which will enable the pavilion's VIP guest to access the top floor.

Highlight 2: Sustainable Innovation

The construction materials and methods, Finland Pavilion Expo 2010 Shanghai China, have been selected so that construction generates as few greenhouse gas emissions as possible and the building will be easy to disassemble and rebuild after the Expo. The most innovative construction material of the pavilion is a composite UPM ProFi -shingle based on recycled paper and plastic. 25,000 injection moulded marble white scaly shingles cover the outer facade of the pavilion.

Sauna: the Finland Pavilion includes a 100-square-meter sauna, which will introduce a typical Finnish sauna to VIP guests. It is the only pavilion that has sauna facilities at the 2010 Expo. Finland is a "sauna country" as the concept originated in the nation. Santa Claus: the visitors will have chance to meet Santa Claus on certain days during Expo.
